Zagg Invisibleshield Review | Not Recommended

Decorative Line on the Invisibleshield

So, it’s the 4th day since I installed the Zagg invisibleshield. On the day of installation, I noticed many bubbles, which I wasn’t too concerned with, as I have read that the bubbles will work themselves out by the next few days.

I am concerned though, with what seems like a fine reflective line (posted on my other blog), it looked more like a defect of the product. I waited out till the next day, and the line has not diminished or faded a bit, at all. See, I design stuffs, and I work on mini items, and I have eyes for details – by that, I mean minute details.

I took photos with different color backgrounds, and wrote to zagg to express my concern. It is unacceptable if it is a permanent line. It just doesn’t make sense to me that I would pay for that price tag (Zagg Invisibleshield leans towards the higher end in price) to result in less desired visual experience when using my iPad.

Decorative Line on the Invisibleshield

As usual, zagg takes 3 days to reply, which I am fine with.

In the reply, the staff replied that the invisibleshield has its limitations, and it looks like I have ‘found’ one of them.

See, this part here is where I fail to comprehend. Do explain to me, in case it’s my Asperger’s that is affecting me, or it’s just common sense. Why are they making it sound like I have won a prize when it is a defect of the product?

In addition, the so-called ‘limitations’ are nowhere stated in their website or product page.

The resolution to the problem offered to me is a ‘courtesy’ replacement (which I also fail to grasp on the part of the ‘courtesy’) that requires me to pay for the handling, and the shipping fee to return the original invisibleshield. Explain to me, how does that make sense, at all?

First off, if the product has limitations, it is only fair that such limitations are stated clearly in the product page, to serve as points of consideration for buyers before wasting some good money. We must be allowed to weigh the risks and chances before buying.

See, I am quite a fair buyer, I waited forever for the package, but I have not once transfer that responsibility to Zagg because I made an informed decision to ship using USPS Priority, which Zagg claims that there is no tracking facility. I wrote only to ask for the consignment number because it is usable on our end – whilst it is mostly useless in most countries – and it is more effective if I provide the number to our local post office. I take ownership of my decision, so I expect the same from the seller.

When they decide not to disclose the ‘limitations’ in product description, it is an opportunity cost that they are to bear. It is possible that it is a marketing strategy to ‘conceal’ the flaws, because it can cast a very negative effect that may affect the buying decision. They will then have to bear full responsibilities that it is never understood by the buyer that the flaws may present themselves, even on the rarerest case – haven’t you heard? I am darn good with rare and weird.

The key reason for me to buy the clear shield is to achieve optimal result while viewing on the tablet. The shield should not compromise the visual effect.

The conclusions:

+ Bubbles – most of the smaller bubbles have disappeared; a few are still visible, but hopefully will work themselves out by next few days

+ Fingerprints – drastically reduced, as advertised

+ Scratch proof – no comment, since I am a careful user, I hardly scratch my devices

+ Business ethics of Zagg – shoddy practice at this point, particularly in handling this matter, and the undisclosed limitations of the product posses as dishonest business practice. The refund policy might still require that I pay for the shipping, and as long as I need to pay extra for a fault of the product, is unacceptable.

So, in view of that, I would not recommend the shield if you are as particular about details as I. It is important to note that it’s been explained to me that I have ‘found’ one limitation among heaven knows what else in the undisclosed limitations, so I can’t tell you what I don’t know, since they are undisclosed. Weigh your options before investing into this.

I am presently waiting for the redesigned replacement folio case to arrive, so I can’t comment much until the item arrives.

All the men in my life make the same mistakes, at least once. It is perhaps right to say that I am the ‘high maintenance’ woman, considering that what I truly love don’t always come cheap.

Don’t buy me jewelry, and the ‘diamond is a girl’s best friend’ never applies to me, ever. I can get my diamond if I desire for one, to begin with. Don’t offer me a Rolex when I fail to see value in the diamond studs and the complicated analog time reading; I am the digital person and I only read digital clock. Get me functional and useful gadgets instead! Keep things ‘real’ though, I don’t appreciate copies or counterfeits very much.

zagg package arrived!!

It’s been a long – way long – wait for Zagg folio. See, we are among the earliest to order in the iPad 2 at launch. That was before our Bali trip. It was a longer than usual wait too.

Then, I spotted Zagg keyboard case – the first case with keyboard for iPad 2 – and was deciding when to order. Then, I was too busy filling orders collected on the eShop. I checked back on Zagg website again in July, I think, and saw that they have introduced a new case, the Zagg folio!

It was ‘pre-order’ item then. I wanted to convince the husband that he NEEDS the folio. I waited for the ‘pre-order’ status to end, as I planned to order other accessories, and it would be silly to have to pay for shipping twice. When the pre-order status was removed, I saw that they have the Zagg Solo!

So, it’s more waiting, since the Solo was in pre-order, which was extended several times.

I placed the order once the pre-order status is lifted.

The package was shipped using USPS Priority International on 19 Aug, and I only received it today. I believe the delay in shipping is caused by the recent Hurricane. I wrote to Zagg to ask for the consignment number since it was not provided to me when shipped. We are able to trace the package on USPS tracking and on our SpeedPost tracking. It’s been a long wait, and it is not acceptable to me that the package arrived in Singapore on 06 Sep, 7:16am and sat at the sorting center for days without delivery schedule. After a call and email to the post office, it was scheduled for morning delivery today.

Alas, the package arrived! I would normally wait for the husband to come home and open the package together, but I wanted to take photos, and by the time he returns, the light would not be ideal for photo shoot.

Tada! In the long awaited package – you know it’s a longer than usual transit because the air pacs in the package are completely deflated! – are 3 items. The invisible shields; the folio; and the solo.
