My farmvilled-brain woke up rather early as I recalled that I had not harvested the crops, so I did. Along with that, I checked emails and processed some orders.
Although the hotel had been a disappointment, I have to say that the staff were friendly and warm, and the food served at the restaurant (you actually enter into the ‘lobby’ – if you consider that as lobby where there is a work desk and a sitting area set up in a really small section of the ground floor – through the restaurant) was quite tasty. The room rates came with a complimentary American breakfast.
We headed back to the room after breakfast. Mike watched ‘Skyline‘ while I played ‘zuma revenge‘ on the android phone.
We would normally go out when it’s almost lunch time. Mike eats a lot when we travel, he is forever hungry, and sleeps after the full meal, and wakes up feeling hungry again. It would be great if I had half of his super metabolism rate!
We purchased the ferry ticket for the next day to Phi Phi Island at THB350 per person. The operator will be arranging a pick-up from our hotel to the pier.
I am still trying to work out the best plan on meals-hunting. Mike gets hungry easily when on holiday, yet, he has the patience and probably takes joy in hunting for a good meal. On the other hand, I am better known as ‘the no-hassle foodie’, I don’t particularly enjoy spending too much time soaking in the humid climate and lose appetite when I perspire.
It’s a similar trend whenever we travel to Thailand – hunting for the best Tom Yum soup.
We found one pleasant-looking restaurant, Blue Orchid and decide to lunch there. Any further walk, I will collapse out of dehydration, and probably heat stroke!
I brought my little umbrella out this time to avoid tan-lines and sunburn. The weather was as crazy as Singapore’s. It was hot and sunny in one minute, and rained heavily by next. The brolly sure came handy for either extreme weather!
We bought some stuffs while avoiding the heavy downpour.
The rain stopped quite abruptly, and rained quite suddenly later. Between them, it was sheer humidity and warm air. I wanted ice-cream so we went into the Black Canyon Coffee cafe.
After ice-cream, we went back to the hotel.
Mike made me a glass of Absolut Apeach with orange juice, while he had Macallan with tonic water.
I logged on to the free wi-fi in the room, and checked more on Supragan Resort which I booked the day before. I wanted to read up more on the facilities and location which I might have missed in haste at booking.
The villa looked and quite large, but it is located in the middle of nowhere – at least I felt so – and internet is chargeable. Personally, I think internet should be complimentary, just like complimentary bottled water. In the advancing world, internet is no longer an additional, it is an essential necessity.
So, I decided it was not ideal, and since we were still within the free cancellation grace period, I decided to research lightly on other accommodation that may suit our needs better.
I found Blue Village on the booking.com, and the raved reviews caught my eye. They offer free wi-fi throughout the entire property and shuttle service to the shopping strip! Mike took a glance at the location on google maps, and said that we could walk up to take a look. I thought that was a crazy idea, it looked really far from where we were! He convinced me that it was within short walking distance – you’ve got to understand that my dear husband has a knack for walking long distances and shrink that distance down to a quarter of the actual distance when he conveys the message to me.
Anyhow, we grab some stuffs and headed out to check out on the potential next-to-stay accommodation.
Indeed, it was not as far as I thought. Blue Village is located further down the road where Bann Ban Dalay is.
We approached the front desk and asked if we could just tour around the premise for a bit. The very friendly lady at the front desk pointed us to the entrance and told us to feel free to look around – she spoke perfect English.
The standalone huts surrounded by greens, and further up a swimming pool – which didn’t concern me, since I don’t swim. We were quite excited with the idea of staying here when we return from Phi Phi.
We didn’t book the room at the front desk as the walk-in rates is much higher than online booking.
We proceed to cancel the previous booking and booked for Blue Village at THB9995 for 5 nights.
Satisfied and finally relieved to have one matter to lift off the mind. We watched Mega Mind on the notebook but didn’t finish watching and decide to go out for dinner.
Mike suggested that we should dine at the Lae Lay Grill – the restaurant at the hill-top, and in order to catch the sunset, we should leave earlier. It looked kind of interesting, as they had a sheltered station down the foot of the hill set up with table and chair where a female staff would promote the place and arrange for transportation up to the restaurant.
So, the tuk tuk was waiting for us, and up we went to the restaurant!
Unfortunately, there was just so far the tuk tuk could bring us. There were quite many steps to climb – so this is no place for the elderly or physically challenged – before entering the restaurant. Just try not to pant too hard when welcomed by the restaurant staff.
Quite a walking distance to walk up to from the foot of the slope.
We chose to sit at the open space table, where we watch the scenic sunset while waiting for the food to be served.
The ladies room is located at a separate building – more like a stone hut – away from the restaurant. I took a picture of the nicely lit paved walkway after I had used the washroom and was returning to the restaurant. There was a Caucasian lady behind me, who stopped too, and I heard her snapping away with her phone camera after I was done with photo taking.
The kitchen is an open concept, so you get to see many chefs preparing the meals.
Romantic ambiance always make the food taste better.
I tried the campari which tasted like the sweetened herbal tea, in very concentrated dosage.
I enjoyed the dinner very much. The food was great, but the winning score is the unbeatable ambiance with scenic view.
What can I tell you, holiday is really about eat, sleep, eat more, sleep even more. Shopping is never really my kind of activity; massages and slow walks in perfectly cool weather would make it to my favorite things to do though.
When you asked for the bill, the staff would ask if you require a taxi to bring you down. I didn’t quite get the question, and declined politely. We decided later that the weather was cool enough to walk down anyway, especially after a full meal, some walking should do some good.
We went out to the tourist street and bought some DVD. Then, we bought 2 hand sculptures – also known as the fortune hand. In another shop, we bought some tees, and with that, we headed back to the hotel.
The day began and ended with farmvilling – that goes to show how heavily I have weighted my life on the world-wide web. We finished watch the Mega Mind after that.
