New Arrangement for New Year!

New Year, New Look - Home

Lunar New Year is only significant to me because it usually coincides with our wedding anniversary; of course, sometimes, Lunar New Year supersedes our anniversary.

We are both self-employed, no doubt we could travel anytime we want; we just need to make necessary work arrangement to fit the schedule. However, Lunar New Year is a good time to travel because it is one of the most celebrated holidays, wherever Chinese are, and we know Chinese are everywhere! It is the time when many companies, local or Multi-national, shut down operation for as short as 2-3 official public holidays to as long as 7-10 days. Many Chinese employees or employees who celebrate Lunar New Year take the opportunity to return home to reunite with their families.

Work activities are slower. It may not necessarily be true for my business, since a higher fraction of my client base are Caucasian nationals.

This year, we switch the rooms between the work room and the bedroom. I am liking the new arrangement and bright color scheme. The white sheets and quilt covers (we have separate quilt, I don’t enjoy sharing blanket or quilt) brightens the room. We saw a ruffled throw while shopping at Ikea, and decide to use it to refurbish the headboard of the board. I like all things washable. That pretty much tells you that I go for fabric sofa over leather sofa. I like to take things apart and wash.

For the ruffled headboard, it’s really just easy peasy tying loose knots by the side. I don’t want to sew anything permanent.

I hope you are having fun preparing for the Lunar New Year, if you are celebrating it; otherwise, just have a great Dragon year ahead!

krabi – day 1 | anniversary trip

the journey begins...

remembering to bring novels this time

We were up at 7.30am and did the final pack up, and this time I made sure to pack the novels in the bag.

It was a little nerve wrecking for me whenever it comes to flagging taxi down off the roadside. For some reasons, the mothers around my neighborhood have no manners or morals, they would ‘scoot’ out from the corner of your eyes and hijack the taxi right in front of you!

We tried to book the taxi over the phone but as it was the peak hours, and to make matter worse, it began to drizzle, so we weren’t able to book any taxi from different operators. I guess it was quite a good day, since we managed to get a taxi by the roadside instead.

Breakfast was settled at the cafeteria inside the airport terminal. Before entering the boarding gate, we bought Absolut Apeach and Macallan scotch at the DFS.

Airport has an amazing magic – especially that the almost only reason I travel is for leisure and pleasure – the minute we arrived at the airport, budget or not, it feels holiday almost instantaneously.

Singapore to Krabi is a short distance flight (under 3 hrs). Soon, we arrived at Krabi International Airport, which is surprisingly small.

We took a shuttle bus service to our hotel, since we didn’t carry hard case luggage this time around.

It was a long long, very long ride from the Airport to the hotel, as our hotel was located at the farthest in the shuttle service route, and there were many stop-overs to drop off other passengers to their hotels.

We booked the room at Baan Ban Dalay, Aonang for 2 nights, and then we will travel to Phi Phi Island, and back to the same hotel for another few more nights.

It was horrendous when we spotted ants in the mini fridge! Nothing else worked properly. The television wasn’t working, so was the telephone, so was the safe.

Many thoughts ran through my mind, and it was no way to start a holiday like this. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant, and requested for a room change.

The staff at the reception desk spoke very little English, but we managed to relate our concerns and request. She brought us to another room – the last room, as they were overbooked – and asked that we return to our original room to get the remote control for the aircon unit since there wasn’t any in this room.

We were disappointed, but weren’t upset. We weren’t planning on ruining the holiday over this trivial matter just as yet.

The ‘holiday routine’ set in quickly for the husband. He napped for a bit while I gamed on my sparkling new smart phone.

While the husband was sleeping, I surfed the internet and cancelled the booking for 3-8 Feb. Good thing we booked with booking.com and they probably have the best cancelation policy. We were in time to cancel without penalty.

I checked on other hotels and booked Supragan Resort (Villa) at THB9000 for 5 nights; a difference of THB1000 from what we would have paid to Bann Ban Dalay.

We went out to buy some snacks and drinks at a mini-mart. We had dinner at one of the restaurant along the long stretch of shopping area.

We stopped over at the diving center ‘Kon-Tiki’ to inquire about diving packages, for Mike. Mike was considering diving either on Phi Phi Island, or when we return to Krabi after Phi Phi.

The television in the room was practically useless since it was hardly visible due to very poor reception; and most channels were in local language. We watched DVD on the notebook instead.

It was a very scary movie – Case 39 – it reminded me of ‘Orphan, there is something wrong with Esther‘ ! I don’t know, what’s with the horror movies during holiday? I turned my head away from the screen by the time the show was showing half way through.
